Cycles of Rebirth and Redie (timespace​-​1)

During the summer of 2022, one of the large-scale wildfire in Europe was ignited at Bohemian Switzerland national park. The ghost of the forest carried by wind reached 100 kilos meter down south to Prague, inhaled by the habitants like us.

Eventually the fire crossed the nations’ borders and entered Saxon Switzerland, so do us. The fire fighters had transported eight million litres of water from the nearby river Elbe by helicopters, into the hills and mountains to stop the disaster cause by human carelessness, drought, and climate change.

At the same period, few kilos meters away, another fire was intently made in a fire ring, to contemplate the cycles of energetic exchange in the macro & micro time-spaces. As an observer of the transformational and transmittable qualities, as well as an actor of the intra-actions between the opposite yet complementary elements of water and fire.

The energetic dynamics of that fire was recorded both in the air and on the surfaces of the fire ring as sound vibrations. It was then emitted back to the fire ring with a pair of surface transducer speakers. The fire is listened by a block of ice from collected local rain, with a pair of microphones inside, as a durational sonic happening, determined by the completion of the melt ice.

The fire ring was suspended by the power cable that runs the electronic parts of the installation, it increases the listening range of resonance within the ice, as well as open up the sensitivity of the present environmental vibrations such as foot stapes and voices.
